Our Achievements

We are self-funded volunteers and rely as much as possible on donated fabrics and haberdashery to make our products. We give away many products to care homes, keyworkers, schools and more. However, we also make products in order to raise as much money as we can to help support local charities.

2020 – March to December

In the beginning it was all about masks but, through requests and seeing a need, this rapidly expanded into other products and fundraising for groups that were unable to do so due to ongoing Pandemic. Literally multiple thousands of items were made by us and given away – we were so busy that we didn’t have the chance to log all the numbers! However, here is a snapshot of our first year’s achievements:

1,000s of masks given away, recipients included:

Dalling House Care Home, Heather View Care Home, Windlesham Manor, Warren Drive Care Home, High Broom Care Home, Grove Park School, Coombe End, Mencap, Folly Wildlife Rescue, Lingfield Epilepsy School, Crowborough Hospital, Pembury Hospital, Age UK.

Special Window Masks:

A particularly tricky make! Several were made though and some groups received a bundle of these, including the POhWER charity group.

Satin Masks!

Production of special satin face masks, for the wedding scene in the final episode of Made in Chelsea which was broadcast in December on E4

Our fundraising efforts resulted in the following:

  • £15,000+ for Friends of Crowborough Hospital
  • £1,500+ for NHS Charities Together
  • £2,000+ for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal

We made and gave away hundreds of these items:

Walking frame bags, twiddle mitts, aprons and other products donated to care homes and special needs groups, including High Brooms Care Home, Warren Drive Care Home and Heatherview.

A really proud moment!

We were absolutely delighted to be selected to receive the Wealden Hero Award in July.

A lovely ‘thank you’:

We received many ‘thank yous’ along the way. This one is such a lovely work of art from the children of Grove Park School.

2021

A new year dawned with the expectation that it would be quieter than the last – we were so wrong!

Scrub sets with wash bags:

Over 350 complete sets were made and given to Aspens, Tunbridge Wells within six weeks of asking.

Requests for additional sewists and supplies of duvet covers & sheets were quickly answered to help us achieve this call for help.

Our fundraising in 2021 resulted in the following:

  • £65 for Crowborough First Responders
  • £20 for Hospice in the Weald
  • £20.50 for Baby2Baby & Beyond
  • £1,600+ for Friends of Crowborough Hospital
  • £2002 for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
  • £150 for Rotherfield School
  • £34 for Fermor School

60+ of these were made by special request from a local primary school

A combination of twiddle mitts, twiddle mats, craft bags and aprons – hundreds of items in total, were given to Know Dementia

Smoothie Hats!

100+ knitted and crocheted hats were made for the Age UK ‘The Big Knit 2021’ Campaign

Gift bags

Donated for filling with ‘pamper items’ for NHS staff

Twiddle mitts

November 2021 – the ‘yarn bombing’ began!

Raising funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Knitted & crocheted poppies with pins for people to pick one and make a donation. We started with 100 poppies for 100 years, but it was so popular and we needed to top it up regularly! We have no idea on final numbers made – but it was LOTS!

The first postbox topper for Crowborough – standing proud! The handiwork of the very talented Karon.
